Witchetty Grub dreaming

This dreaming tells of the hunt for witchetty grubs. Witchetty grubs are found all over our country. They are found in the ground and in tree trunks. The women dig them out and place them in their coolamons. When they return to camp they cook them in the coals of the fire.

About Manuel Japaljarri Herbert

Manuel is a younger artist who was born and grew up in Lajumanu surrounded by the creativity of his elders, and the timelessness of his ancient culture. He works in the Lajamanu art center from time to time and has been affected by seeing his elders create their dreaming stories on canvas. He is also a musician playing in Lajamanu, Melbourne and Sydney. His artwork is affected by his need to create both musically and on canvas. His favourite theme is sites in the Tanami Desert which are sacred, or events which are significant in the lives of Warlpiri people such as fire, water and land.
