Warnayaka Art is located in Lajamanu, a remote Warlpiri community in the Northern Territory, approximately 900km south of Darwin and around 560km from Katherine.

Visitor Information

By car, the journey from Darwin takes around 10–12 hours depending on road conditions. Travellers typically drive south along the Stuart Highway to Katherine, then continue west via the Victoria Highway before turning south onto the Buntine Highway towards Lajamanu. The final 100km into the community along Lajamanu Road is an unsealed dirt road.

Buses run from Katherine and Darwin twice a week. The bus timetable can be found here.

Charter flights are also available directly to the community.

Accommodation in Lajamanu 

Accommodation in Lajamanu is extremely limited. Please notify us before visiting.

Visitor Permits

Please note that all visitors must obtain a visitor permit through the Central Land Council (CLC) before travelling to Lajamanu. More information about applying for a permit can be found here.

Permission from Traditional Aboriginal Owners is required to enter or remain on Aboriginal Land. The Central Land Council is authorised to issue permits in this region to ensure compliance with relevant laws.

Volunteers

Warnayaka Art participates in a number of events across Australia throughout the year, and volunteers play an important role in supporting the team at these events. We also welcome volunteers who are interested in gaining experience at the art centre.
