Bush Tomato Dreaming – Ngayaki Jukurrpa
Ngayaki (bush tomato) is a plentiful fruit, growing in open spinifex country, that is collected all over our lands. They are a fleshy green fruit with many black seeds and can be found on small prickly plants with purple flowers. After collecting the fruit, the seeds are removed with a small wooden spoon or digging stick. The fruit can be eaten raw or threaded onto skewers then cooked over a fire. Sometimes, they are simply left in the sun to dry. When preserved in this way, the fruit can be stored for a long time. This Jukurrpa (Dreaming) belongs to Napanangka/Napangardi women and Japanangka/Japangardi men.
