In this dreaming story men called Jakamarra and Jupurrurla created trees, and from the trees they cut wood from the branches and made boomerangs. The word for boomerang in Warlpiri is karli. Traditionally boomerangs were used for hunting game, for clearing parts of the ground and as percussion instruments when singing in ceremonies. Today men still look for tree branches that are the right shape for making boomerangs. They are still used as percussion instruments for ceremonies and songs. This dreaming belongs to Jakamarra/Jupurrurla and Nakamarra/Napurrurla groups.
